Welcome to our Meet ShareProgress series! Once a week, we’ll be posting a quick profile on a member of the ShareProgress staff. This week it’s Anna Schmitz, our Customer Satisfaction Associate.
Where do you live? What do you love about it?
I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From November-April it’s a frozen tundra populated by people wearing so many layers of down clothing that they look like oversized marshmallows. But Minneapolis from May-October is a beautiful, bike-friendly city filled with friendly people and cool events.
What do you do at ShareProgress?
I’m the Customer Satisfaction Associate at ShareProgress. I respond to our clients’ questions, and I also run the Twitter, Facebook page, and blog for ShareProgress.
What work were you doing before this that prepared you for your role here?
Right before this, I worked as a Field Organizer for Mark Begich’s senate campaign. I think being a Field Organizer pretty much prepares you for any job you could possibly get after, because it completely expands your concept of what you can do. You have to be able to talk to anyone, work all the time, and stay crazy organized. Definitely skills that are useful later, although I’m pretty glad to have weekends off again.
What’s your favorite part of working at ShareProgress?
I really love the ShareProgress team. It’s a team of smart, funny people bringing better progressive data and tech to life. We have monthly virtual hangouts where we’ve played online robot games, written haikus, and played Pictionary, and those are definitely highlights of the work day.
What’s one piece of advice you would give about what you do?
I’m in love with www.canva.com, which makes it super easy to create good-looking designs for all of your social media graphic needs. It’s intiuitive and fun to play around with, which are big pluses for me.
What’s your favorite thing on the internet right now?
I’m a big fan of The Toast in general, and Mallory Ortberg has an amazing series there that takes a somewhat unconventional/hilarious look at art history. Here’s Women Resisting Heterosexuality, and here’s Women Praying Furiously.
Next week will be our last ShareProgress team profile, so watch for that! Then we’ll be back to our regular tips and tricks on progressive data and tech, remote working, and statistical analysis.
